a habitable landscape along the lagoon
Grizzo Studio designs Casa Lomadas overlooking a lagoon outside Buenos Aires, Argentina. The house sits like a long, folded one concrete bar, perched on two engineered mounds that reorganize the site into an artificial terrain. From the first point of view, the work reads as a negotiation between mass and ground, with building and landscape acting as a continuous system.
The two mounds establish the logic of the design. One starts at the edge of the road and extends outward, widening as it moves towards the water, bringing the main approach. The other begins as a vehicle entrance and garage before sliding into the garden and reappearing as a planted ramp leading back to the house. These are more than props. They carry traffic, hold program and shape how the building is experienced from arrival to the edge of the lagoon.

casa lomadas: the arrival sequence
Where the mounds meet its concrete bar Grizzo StudioCasa Lomadas, a double-height exterior void opens the entrance. A shallow reflecting pool sits within this space, drawing the eye across the site while catching fragments of sky and structure. The approach is guided to the side before turning inwards, so entry is through movement rather than a single front door moment.
Walking along the left mound, the path thickens into the interior. The kitchen and dining room are on this built ground, built into the slope, and the ceiling rises as the range reaches the living room. From there, the design extends to a portico that projects over the lagoon. It feels like the end of a long, measured progression, where the horizon becomes the final wall.

geometry as a working tool
Casa Lomadas is defined by a multifaceted language of angular concrete planes. The walls tilt and shift, creating a sense of tension that directs attention outwards. Views are framed in specific directions and the landscape is brought into fixed peripheral vision. This geometry permeates each space, so the building reads as a continuous function rather than a collection of rooms.
A suspended ladder traverses this system, made of folded raw steel sheet. It looks light on the heavier concrete surfaces and lands on a large indoor planter, connecting the movement between levels back to the ground. Materials remain immediate throughout. Exposed concrete, raw steel and stone remain visible, giving the house a consistent natural character that holds together as one piece.

Upstairs, the more open spaces continue the outward orientation. A sitting and study area extend onto a planted terrace that sits above the gallery, framed as a vantage point towards the lagoon and the sunset. A bridge crosses the entry void, connecting to the bedrooms and maintaining a sense of continuity throughout the design.
From here, the second mound is activated again, forming a downhill green ramp that leads back to the garden. Traffic throughout the house always returns to the ground, even when passing through the upper levels. The project continues to connect indoor circulation to the ground so that each pathway appears part of a larger system.

At the far end of the concrete bar, the master bedroom opens in both directions through large glass surfaces. The en-suite bathroom extends outwards, with the bath positioned at the edge of the cantilever. The position gives a direct relationship with the lagoon, where the horizon becomes part of the interior view.
The rear facade introduces a perforated metal screen, suspended away from the main structure. It filters light and softens the mass of the concrete bar, allowing air and views to pass through. From the outside, it adds a layer of depth. From within, it creates a shifting light field that changes throughout the day.
