Teo Abihdana stars in DSCENE Magazine’s The Island Holds Still

Total VERSACE look

Every landscape has its own rhythm. In Lanzarote, volcanic formations, open horizons and changing light perception slow enough for every gesture to be recorded more accurately. This measured rhythm defines The Island Holds Still, DSCENE magazinehis latest fashion story Abihdan was therephotographed by Moïse Mbarga-Abega for the Design under pressure issue.

The editorial is formed through the relationship between the body, clothes, light and the volcanic terrain of Lanzarote. Abihdana appears against pale earth, open horizons and dark geological formations that keep the visual field in a state of suspension. Barga-Abega eschews a conventional travel narrative and treats the island as an active element within the photographs. Its exposed surfaces create scale, while its immobility gives each appearance space to be recorded.

Juan Areizaga led the art direction, developing a visual language that responds to the issue’s central theme without depicting pressure through obvious tension. Instead, history turns toward containment. The box carries minimal redundant information. The distance narrows, the horizon loses its usual separation from the ground, and the presence of Abihdana offers the clearest point of orientation.

Light falls without urgency throughout the editorial. It flattens the depth and reduces the island to layers of stone, sand, sky and shadow. Sometimes, the body reads less as a central subject and more as a measure of the surrounding silence. The photographs hold their compositions long enough for small changes in pose, fabric, and surface to carry weight.

Design Under Pressure examines the pressure placed on creative work when attention never stops completely. The issue examines the demand to continue to produce, maintain visibility, meet expectations and maintain the part of a practice that still belongs to its maker. Across fashion, film, design and public life, each cover approaches this situation from a different direction.

Island Holds Still deals with pressure through pause. Lanzarote offers a scene shaped by violence, yet its current appearance communicates calm. Its volcanic terrain records a previous rupture without turning the images into a study of drama. This tension gives the cover its structure. The terrain carries elements of transformation, while the photographs remain controlled, spare and naturally grounded.

Stylist Sania Batra builds the wardrobe through layered proportions and precise changes in volume. Tailored pieces meet softer constructions, while long lines respond to the openness of the site. The clothes retain their individual identities without interrupting the visual rhythm of the editorial. Their textures draw attention to the contrasts between the polished fabric, the solid stitching, the loose fit and the rough surfaces of the island.

Abihdana conveys the story through controlled posture and a steady relationship with the camera. His performance avoids excessive gestures. A turn of the shoulder, the placement of the hands, or a direct gaze provides enough change to change the tone of an image. This limitation supports the larger idea of the cover: pressure does not always appear through visible force. It can emerge through the anticipation, endurance, control and discipline required to stand still.
