Beyond the Slide: Why Nolmo Garden is the Future of Sustainable Playground Design

Let’s be honest: most playgrounds are a bit… predictable. You have your standard slide, some swings and maybe a swinging bridge if you’re lucky. They do the job for a few years, but eventually, the plastic cracks, the metal rusts, and the whole thing ends up looking a little sad. But designers Marlena Kostrzewa, Aleksandra Kwaśniewska decided it was time to shine with the award-winning Nolmo Garden Collection.

Winning a prestigious EPDA (European Product Design Award) award is no small feat, and this collection earned its trophy by treating playground design like high-tech architecture. Rather than just ‘background infrastructure’, the Nolmo Garden is a masterclass in circular design. The big idea? Each individual component is modular and easily replaceable. No more tearing out an entire build just because one panel is worn – just replace the part and keep the fun going!

What’s really cool is how these pieces grow with the kids. We often forget that what is a mountain to a four-year-old is a speed bump to an eight-year-old. This sustainable approach means the gear evolves alongside the community, staying relevant (and durable) for years. It is an “adult” solution for the most active family members.

Nolmo Garden proves that outdoor gear can be beautiful and incredibly tough. It’s designed to be rained on, climbed on and loved fiercely without ending up in a landfill. It’s rare to see a playground where parents want to watch as much as the kids want to play, but this collection perfectly redresses that balance.
