Flooring works: Vittoria Group, Edinburgh

EDINBURGH RESTAURANT Vittoria has been something of a Leith Walk institution, known for its authentic Italian cuisine and family-run warmth. When the Vittoria Group wanted to refresh the interiors of both Vittoria on the Walk and its sister site, Vittoria on the Bridge, they appointed Edinburgh-based interior architecture and branding studio Significant Other to lead the design. The brief was to redesign the restaurants for a new generation of diners while respecting the heritage loved by loyal customers.

The Significant Other’s response aimed to find a balance between tradition and modernity. Inside Vittoria on the Walk, earth tones, terrazzo surfaces and dark banquettes bring depth and comfort, while orange chairs and brass details add energy and sophistication. Flexible seating serves intimate dinners and larger gatherings equally well, while careful use of shelving, wine displays and greenery is intended to reinforce the warm, social spirit of the brand.

At Vittoria on the Bridge, luxury Amtico Signature vinyl tile was chosen to complement the new contemporary palette. Warm light timbers in a French Weave pattern introduce a classic yet modern rhythm beneath the blue geometric walls and brass accents. Around the bar, a combination of modernist Lintel, Diffusion Loam and Stucco Quartz in the Victorian Star pattern by Amtico Décor creates a dynamic zoning feature and its precision detailing echoes the restaurant’s layered textures and intricate mirrors.

At Vittoria on the Walk, the design continues with Bordeaux Oak in a Stripwood pattern, a choice that evokes traditional wood flooring while also aiming to provide a subtle sense of direction to the dining room. Checkerboard tiles in Bianca Classic Marble and Verde Classic Marble add contrast. www.amtico.com/commercial
