Decorating with blue is really quite easy. Think of blue as a neutral because it is. Many colors go with blue, such as pink, blush, green, mint, metallic, black and white of course. What I like to use with blue is neutral colors and sparkle, especially during the holidays. This time of year is the perfect opportunity to bring out the bling and use all your favorite things.

Put on your comfy clothes and get started with your colorful tree!

For this blue tree I had the idea to create a woody, shiny look. That meant some outdoor elements like antlers and pine cones, and some glitter – which is very easy to get into a tree ornament. In total in this blue tree I used:

  • Clear lights (pre-lit on the tree) – Arboretum
  • Thin Wire Garland (Medium for Decorative Mesh Wreaths) – Hobby Lobby
  • Glitter Snowflakes – Dollar Tree
  • Gold and Silver Disco Ball Ornaments – Hobby Lobby
  • Gold decorative poinsettia – Christmas Tree shop
  • White Glitter Antlers – JoAnn Fabrics
  • Cocoons – My DIY project. See how to make them here.
  • Small green round ornaments – My thrift store find

How to decorate a blue Christmas tree

  1. First you start with garland, and it can be any kind you want. I used this thin silver and gold garland meant for wreaths to loosely wrap the tree.
  2. Then we added large objects like these glitter snowflakes. Most of them are from the dollar store. Place them on the branches alternating which side of the tree you put them on as you lower them down the tree. Like most decorations, you work in a zigzag pattern, filling in any gaps and making sure the decoration isn’t too close to another like it.
  3. After that I added it disco balls, points, horns, pine conesand small green ornaments. Add them to the gaps of the tree when they will hang beautifully.

The idea is to have different types of objects next to each other so that they complement each other. You really can’t go wrong with it. I think blue is an unexpected but beautiful color to add to your holiday decor. What do you think? Even my little helper had fun putting all the decorations on.
