Ramos Alderete sets up an immersive relaxation room inside an office
The Relax Room, designed by Ramos Alderete Studio, is designed as a dedicated interior within a corporate environment, transforming two existing meeting rooms in one space for pause, reflection and informal interaction. The project reworks a confined tubular arrangement into an enclosed, immersive environment defined by curved geometry, controlled lighting and acoustic materiality.
The original space was narrow and elongated, interrupted by a structural column and a conventional window. The intervention reinterprets these elements through spatial modification. The column is hidden, but continues to organize the internal scale, while the window turns into a calibrated light source. The linear geometry is reshaped into a continuous curved envelope, creating new visual perspectives and a more fluid spatial experience. The walls and ceilings are clad in acoustic materials, creating a controlled and tactile indoor situation. The enclosure, combined with an airtight entrance, creates a clear boundary between them workplace and the interior environment, changing sound, light and spatial perception upon entry.
Despite its limited footprint, the room accommodates multiple uses through a combination of open floor plan and built-in seating steps. This configuration allows the space to support meetings, presentations, rest and informal gatherings without relying on additional furniture. Different spatial zones are defined through scale and light. An alcove provides a smaller, more focused setting for individual use or small conversations, while the main area supports collaborative engagement. The design balances common and individual conditions within a single continuous volume.

Soft curves, light and acoustic materials create a relaxing space
Lighting plays a central role in defining the spatial experience, organized through three main elements: The eye, placed above and finished with a reflective surface, diffuses light and introduces an indirect, ambient glow. The alcove, illuminated with indirect light, creates a more intimate and limited spatial situation. The reinterpreted window, oriented towards the desk, maintains a visual connection to the work environment.
In addition, a built-in RGB lighting system allows adjustments to the atmosphere, supporting different uses and modes of occupancy.
The project is based on a restrained palette of materials, where acoustic surfaces, gentle curvature and controlled lighting contribute to a consistent interior environment. The combination of geometry and material reduces external stimuli and supports a focused, quieter spatial situation within the office context.
The Relax Room by Ramos Alderete Studio introduces an alternative spatial typology to the corporate environment, shifting from productivity-based layouts to a more adaptable environment. Through geometric transformation, integrated seating and a structured lighting system, the project creates a space that supports both individual and collective use while maintaining continuity with the surrounding workspace.
