Keeping a tidy house when you have children is already a challenge, but when there are four children the situation becomes much more complicated.
Every corner of the house always seems on the verge of giving in to chaos, and finding the time and energy to put everything in order can seem impossible. However, there are those who have managed to turn household cleaning into a fluid and almost automatic routine.
This is the case of Javier, father of four, who together with his partner have developed a proven weekly system that allows the family to start each new week in a perfectly clean and fragrant house, without stress and without sacrificing free time on Sundays.
Sunday morning: laundry, sofa and floors all in one fell swoop
Javier’s secret lies in the division of tasks and teamwork. Sunday morning ticks like a precise mechanism: first all the sheets are removed from the beds and put directly into the washing machine. Meanwhile, the beds are made with clean linens. With four children at home, changing the sheets every week and even twice in the summer is not a luxury but a basic hygienic need.

While the washing machine is running, we proceed to rearrange the clothes in the master bedroom, eliminating that mind-numbing “visual noise”. Immediately after it is the sofa’s turn: the covers are carefully changed and replaced, ironing them well in the corners until they are perfectly smooth.
The final touch is the scent: a homemade air freshener vaporizer is sprayed on sofa covers, sheets and even curtains, turning any room into a space that smells clean and conveys instant well-being. In the meantime, his partner vacuums the whole house while Javier takes care of mopping the floors.
At night: when the kids are asleep, it’s time for details
The second part of the routine takes place in complete silence, after 10 p.m., when the four children are finally in bed. This is the moment Javier and his partner reserve for details that would be impossible to take care of with due concentration during the day.
It mainly concerns dusting: all furniture is carefully cleaned, not forgetting skirting boards, often overlooked in routine cleaning but fundamental for a truly flawless result. The method they use is very simple but extremely effective: a bucket of water, a drop of ammonia and some liquid soap, an economical and powerful solution that removes all kinds of dirt leaving surfaces shiny.
Organizing the children’s drawers with clothes neatly folded and stored in the right place completes the picture. A system that shows how, with the right organization and team spirit, even a large family can live in a house that is always tidy.
