Some things have an indescribable magnetism, something that connects to a neuron somewhere deep in the brain. Call it what you like, style, substance, ‘it’, you know it when you see it. based in Brooklyn Courtney Kinare taps into this vein of creativity with her latest releases, the Berry Polka Pendant and her Sorbet lighting range, now available at Tuleste factory. Working in glass, resin and jewellery, the peaks of transparency, reflection and layering are essential to her work.
THE Polka olive pendantolive with purple dots, merge and slightly enter the main body of the lamp, gently touching the surface, almost weightless. THE Berry Polka Pendantpurple with olive dots, not the opposite of the pair, but a sister or perhaps a cousin. A warm glow emanates from the orbs, held in imposing brass hardware, suspended in space. Powerful when hung together, they bring balance either next to each other or individually, adding to the use cases where we could imagine these pieces.
The Sorbetto range is aptly named, the swirling blooms of color create a wildly different effect when the lamps are switched on and off. There are deep red color that turns into a brilliant orange, at Sherbert sorbet pendantand pale pinks that contain remarkable depth, illuminated or otherwise.
These bright blues and aquas create a beautiful balance between warm and cool, a tactile yet ethereal quality associated with the work. As each piece is handcrafted, there will be welcome change around the world, each a product of the unique expertise that brings this lighting to life.
THE Hanging Gumdrop Sorbet reminiscent of a soundscape, bursts of color melting into each other, working harmoniously to keep the light in the house. The color depth is sufficient
Courtney Kinnare is a Brooklyn based artist working primarily in glass, resin and metal (currently). Her first lighting collection, the Berry Polka and Sorbetto series features processes she loves most. The invisible work that goes on behind the scenes, trying to get something right and discarding the used and unused again, a practitioner knowing when time and energy are better spent elsewhere.
