Imagine if a sci-fi forest met an MC Escher painting and they decided to build a house together. This is the atmosphere of the Holocene House. Designed by the visionaries at CplusC Architects + Buildersthis is not just a building. it is a living, breathing ecosystem that actually returns to the planet.
The first thing you’ll notice? The water. The pool is not just in the backyard. It runs right through the center of the living room like a 12 meter creek with dark tiles. This isn’t your typical chlorinated tank either. It uses a natural reed and charcoal filtration system to mimic a real wetland.

Look up and you’ll see the star of the show: the floating jungle canopy. It’s a striking latticework of wood and steel that supports concrete planters and jade-colored panels that diffuse light throughout the deck. It’s functional shading that drops the temperature, but looks like multiple garden dimensions rolled into one.
What makes the Holocene House truly ‘unfrog’ is its status as Australia’s first certified carbon positive house. This means:

From the landscaping designed to support the local bandicoots to the cross ventilation that keeps things cool, every inch of this home is strict about its systems. It’s proof that a carbon-positive home doesn’t have to look “crisp”—it can be the most refined home on the block.
