Sini Majuri forms a pair of fused sculptural glasses
Sini Majuri presents It’s Getting Hot in Here, a sculptural glasses work exhibited at Etnia House of Arts during Venice Art Biennale 2026. Made of handmade glass, ethically sourced gold sheets and original eyeglass components, the project examines contemporary perception through the material language of optical devices and mediated vision.
The sculpture takes the form of a pair of glasses melting from a flat surface glass. Despite its sculptural composition, the object retains the folding mechanics of functional glasses, positioning itself between design object, optical instrument and installation. The distorted form introduces instability to a device traditionally associated with precision and visual clarity.
The project examines the historical role of glass as a material associated with observation, scientific research and vision technologies, including microscopes, telescopes and lenses. Within the work, however, the glasses appear soft and partially damaged, suggesting a breakdown in the visual systems ability to fully process or interpret contemporary reality.

“It’s hot in here” refers to mediated visual culture
Through this transformation, the piece addresses the conditions of image saturation and mediated experience. Screens, lenses and digital interfaces increasingly structure the way information is consumed, while visual abundance does not necessarily produce greater understanding. The melting geometry of the glasses reflects this tension between visibility and understanding.
Material contrast plays a central role in the installation. Fragile clear glass is combined with genuine ethically sourced gold leaf, a material historically associated with permanence, power and value. Together, the materials create a dialogue between instability and strength, transparency and distortion.
The glass components were cut and fused at Essis by Lasilinkki Studio in Kuopio, Finland. Ethically produced gold leaf was sourced from Kultaus Snellman Oy. The project by Finnish artist Sini Majuri is presented at the Etnia House of Arts in Venice, where it functions as a sculptural study of perception, material transformation and the visual conditions of contemporary culture.
