Yes, we love nature, but would we really prefer the flies and mobs to leave us alone when we’re enjoying garden life? For sure! If you’d rather chill out on your patio bug-free, then don’t miss the $6.99 Bug Repellent Fan currently in the middle aisle at ALDI.
Bug lovers work by spinning two strips of holographic, reflective material that refract sunlight, creating an area of visual disturbance that most insects won’t venture into. The air movement they cultivate further deters weak flying insects such as flies and mosquitoes.

I have wanted to buy a fly swatter for a long time as I don’t like the harsh chemicals used in some bug repellants. And while I secretly love the strong scent of citronella, I’m never really sure if outdoor candles are ever very effective. So a non-toxic, zero-odor method to keep bugs away is appealing. As patio ideas it goes, it’s a winner, and a great addition to my containers plants that naturally repel mosquitoes.
The Ambiano Bug Repellant fan from ALDI is available in three colors: elegant white, smart black and faux wood. With a flat base, it is designed to stand on a table and is powered by two AA batteries (included) or via a USB connection (cable included). The soft, flexible blades stop spinning if you touch them, so you don’t have to worry about accidentally hitting the fan while it’s in motion.

A big win for outdoor dining
Because bug fans effectively create a no-fly zone in their immediate vicinity, they are a great solution for outdoor dining. The fans usually rotate above the height of the food, creating a protective canopy, although you may need two or three fans to keep a larger table from flying away.
Likewise, a pitcher of lemonade or a sweet cocktail can act as a bug magnet, so a repellent fan standing guard will save any unfortunate plucking from unlucky swimmers. If you love summer picnics, then a fan is small enough to carry with you.
I’ve been seriously impressed with ALDI’s garden design finds so far this year, as of last week metal raised planters to the wonderful lemon gardening accessoriesso I’m on the lookout for more stylish backyard bargains.
