Plantasia isn’t a house you just move out of – it’s one of you experience. Designed by Yasmine Ghoniem of YSG Studiothis redesigned, vaguely 1990s colonial house on the NSW South Coast has been transformed into a lush, surreal diorama for a creative couple and their two children. Rooted in its seaside setting but deliberately quirky, Plantasia is a masterclass in whimsical interiors that blur the line between fantasy and everyday life.
Each room unfolds like choose your own adventurewhere color, pattern and materiality draw you forward, making the familiar feel slightly strange – and much more exciting.

The living room showcases the home’s eccentric interiors with confidence. Immersive, nature-based wallpaper envelops the space, while striped ceilings create a subtle visual dissonance overhead. The seats are upholstered in washed linen and leather, placed on top of the cork floors, offering unexpected softness underfoot. Jarrah wood elements anchor the room architecturally, while brass accents sparkle throughout, adding warmth and polish. The result is enveloping and theatrical — a living room that feels more like a curated stage than a neutral backdrop.

In the dining room, eccentric interiors take on a more personal, collected expression. A salon of eclectic art and objects line boldly patterned walls, turning the room into a living archive of curiosity. Rattan chairs, wooden furniture and silk cotton fabrics introduce touch, while subtle brass accents punctuate the space. It’s a room designed for lingering — where conversation, dining and visual discovery unfold simultaneously.

The kitchen cuts down on the drama, but leans heavily on material wealth. Jarrah cabinets provide depth and warmth, paired with Rosso Asiago marble surfaces that feel grounded and luxurious.

Onyx accents and brass hardware add a jewel-like quality, while tiled surfaces and glass mosaics reflect light throughout the day. Functional yet expressive, the kitchen quietly reinforces the home’s language of whimsical interiors through texture rather than excess.

This bedroom offers a more introspective take on eccentric interiors. Heavy washed linen curtains frame the window, transforming the surrounding greenery into a living work of art.

The palette deepens into earthy greens and shaded tones, creating a cocoon atmosphere. Layers of silk cotton, linen and fine leather absorb light and sound, while small touches of brass maintain a sense of sophistication. It is a space designed for retreat — calm, moody and deeply immersed.

Otherwise, Plantasia’s eccentric interiors reach their most fantastical expression. The bathrooms are conceived as floating worlds, lined with geliz tiles, glass mosaics, onyx and brass. The Rockwell yellow sherbet tub, set under the citrus wallpaper, is playful and surreal—a defining moment in the home’s narrative.

Flora and fauna tapestries climb walls and ceilings throughout, blurring the lines between interior and landscape. Victorian-inspired details — lampshades, table skirts and elaborately carved window frames — introduce period drama, echoed by bold color and distorted scale. Each room is separate, but undeniably part of the same dream.
Defined by jarrah, cork, Rosso Asiago marble, onyx, brass, leather, wallpaper, zellige tiles, glass mosaics, washed linen, rattan and silk cotton, Plantasia is a bold exploration of whimsical interiors made with intention. YSG Studio has created a home that resists neutrality, embraces the imagination and transforms everyday life into an exciting, surreal experience – one that invites you to wander, stop and look twice.
