2050+ redefines a parking lot as a public sports infrastructure
Selected through the Ephemeral Agents international open call for its 2026 edition ConcentricDancing Frontones is temporary installation with 2050+ which transforms the Revellín Parking in Logroño, Spainin an outdoor playground. The project draws on the traditions of Pelota Vasca, a sport that uses architectural surfaces as part of the game, to explore how sporting activity can reactivate underutilized urban spaces and promote new forms of collective employment.
“The devices can be placed everywhere, reclaiming public space through sport and bringing people together. It is part of a wider reflection on the fact that public space and activities like it are disappearing everywhere. For us, it is a way to bring activities back into the public space. Ippolito Pestellini Laparelli tells us.
The intervention proposes a flexible system of sports infrastructure designed to support movement, concentration and social interaction. Installed in a parking lot surrounded by local sports facilities, the project temporarily shifts the function of the space away from traffic and storage towards participation and public life.
Even before the official opening of the Concéntrico, the facility had already begun to fulfill its intended purpose. Within hours of its completion, local residents gathered around the mobile fronts to play basketball, turning the parking lot into an impromptu community recreation space.

three movable front tones support different playing styles
At the heart of the installation until 2050+ are four movable front pitches, each dedicated to a different activity: Pelota Vasca, basketball, football and climbing. Distributed throughout the site, the structures can be repositioned and configured according to different uses and events, allowing the spatial organization of the parking lot to evolve over time.
The project extends the pediment beyond its original athletic context, turning it into a multifunctional device for reclaiming public space. Frontones Danzantes sees sport as a mechanism for producing temporary commons in the city, encouraging locals and visitors to move, congregate and compete in a shared environment. The project continues its ongoing research Multidisciplinary practice based in Milan in the spatial dimension of sport and its ability to transform urban environments. Curator and researcher Erica Petrillo explains that the studio is interested in “sport and in practice as a tool for the recovery of public space, as a tool for the transformation of urban settings, cities”.

“Inspired by Pelota Vasca, we decided to create walls where there were none, occupying a space that used to be a parking lot. It’s a way to carve out spaces where there weren’t any before. shares of Erica Petrillo.“The particularity of Pelota Vasca is that it is a game in which you hit a ball against already existing facades, so it is a way of repositioning the urban space and turning it into a playground.”
The geometry of the constructions refers to surrounding and historical architectures, connecting the intervention to the urban fabric of Logroño, interpreting familiar forms as sports equipment. 2050+ seeks to bridge the physical and social gaps embedded in the site, using play as a tool to reconnect fragmented urban conditions.
Presented during Concéntrico 2026, the installation contributes to ongoing discussions about how temporary architecture can test alternative uses for public space and how adaptive and low-impact interventions can reveal new possibilities for collective living in cities.
