The All’essenza chair by Ton presents a simplicity of form

Mass-produced chairs, more often than not, look like a bulky assembled kit of parts. Czech manufacturer Tuna takes a less-is-more approach and is known for wooden furniture that brings out the character of the material without excessive details.

For its latest introduction, the company turned to a longtime partner Alexander Gufler to once again develop an improved chair that can support a variety of postures, In essence. The name comes from the Italian phrase ‘to the essence’, a fitting nod to the designer’s reductive concept. “Each element has been carefully considered, simplified and refined,” says Gufler. “There is little room for distraction.”

Characterized by a simple silhouette and balanced proportions, All’essenza features a gently curved back and seat. The compact unit is lightweight and stackable, ideal for use in settings where reconfiguration is necessary. A distinctive element allows users to arrange chairs in defined rows to help create a clear layout in corporate boardrooms, school auditoriums and collaboration zones.

Combining traditional craftsmanship and modern technology, All’essenza is made using a technique that Ton has perfected over its 160+ years of operation. The highest quality sustainably sourced wood is first steamed and then bent, which gives each piece its shape and unparalleled strength.

The collection is available in American walnut, beech and oak, with gloss or matt options to coat the surfaces above or below. Lacquer finishes and oil treatments enhance the organic texture of the wood, in light to dark tones such as maroon or deep forest green. Pigments offer a layer of color for more modern styling in shades that go from cool graphite blue to deep factory red.

Specifiers can also add fabric to soften the look of the structure. Ton offers a full range of fabric options, in four fabric categories and two leather groups, with everything from wool to recycled polyester to cover the chair.

With thoughtful blocking as its signature, All’essenza brings a sense of harmony to the interior while maintaining essential function. “This chair is the result of years of experience and a constant search for simplicity, clarity and balance,” notes Gufler.
