Givenchy returned to menswear for Spring Summer 2027 with a presentation inside his home at 3 Avenue George V, where Sarah Burton she directed her first public menswear collection for the house as a private study of wardrobe, character and space. The presentation moved through three rooms and each room had a different view of the dress. Burton framed the project through the idea of a house within a house, using familiar clothes as the basis for a new direction.
He started with precise suits: a double-breasted jacket, wide trousers, a white cotton shirt, a bomber and a perfect. Around them, she placed embroidered pieces, personal treasures and sports pieces of soft, shiny leather. She wanted the collection to feel intimate and reflect her conversations with friends back home.
Burton collaborated with a British artist Rachel Whitereadwhose sculptures often throw the inner volume of domestic spaces and objects. by Whiteread Cabinet came from inside a closet, while Home did the interior of a Victorian house with a terrace. For Givenchy, Burton re-ordered molds of wardrobe interiors and used the colorful items Essex found from the pre-show campaign.
Burton focused on observed archetypes: the Prince of Wales suit, pin-stripe tailoring, the white shirt, the coat, the jumpsuit, the workwear set, a leather rugby shirt, embroidered MA-1 jackets, floral jacquard knits and the evening jacket. These pieces formed her first outline for Givenchy menswear.
Her tailoring brought a precise sense of intervention. Burton sliced, peeled and cut into the suit, tilting the lapel forward and removing the garment from the standard routine. He still started with the silhouette and the shoulder, using construction to define presence. Color carried another charge, especially in an almost yellow fluoro silk satin car coat worn with ripped trousers and sneakers. Leather uppers appeared in solid color and black hues, paired with a new softly rounded skate sneaker.
“I wanted it to feel very personal and intimate and to reflect the conversations I have with my friends in the house.” Sarah Burton said of the collection.
