Win brings it Air Force 1 Low “What The LA” back this holiday season, bringing back an urban-focused release from the brand “What the” series. The sneaker first arrived in 2019 along with the “What The NYC” edition, giving Los Angeles his own take on a form known for combining multiple references into one design.
With “What The LA,” Nike gave the concept a city-driven direction. Past “What The” sneakers often pulled elements from previous releases and combined them into one pair. This version was about the sports culture of Los Angeles and used the city’s teams as the main source of color, texture and attitude. Nike built the shoe around a broad view of the city, connecting basketball, baseball, hockey and streetwear through a single Air Force 1.

Purple and gold lead the palette and most directly indicate the Lakers. Blue, red, black and metallic tones add references to the Dodgers and the Kings. The full colorway gives the shoe a layered identity while keeping it away from direct team merchandise.

Nike combines suede and leather panels with glossy overlays, contrasting Swooshes and a splash midsole. The shoe uses multiple surfaces in one construction, going from soft suede to smooth leather for shine and splashes.

Los Angeles script appears near the heels and soles, tying the pair back to their local concept. Nike eschews official team logos, giving the sneaker more room to act as a tribute to the city as a whole.

That restraint helped the original ‘What The LA’ hold attention after its release in 2019. The sneaker spoke to many parts of Los Angeles culture at once, from the Lakers and Dodgers to the Kings and the city’s wider streetwear presence. He reached beyond a sport and treated Los Angeles as a complete visual language.
