The Velocity 5 uses an advanced NITROFOAM™ setup to give runners a smooth and soft ride. PUMA increases the stack height slightly from the previous Velocity, which increases underfoot comfort and keeps the shoe lightweight. Conor Cashin, Product Manager at PUMA, says the Velocity franchise has become a favorite among runners because it gives them what they need from an everyday trainer. He explains that PUMA has evolved the fifth version with improved cushioning, lightweight construction and everyday versatility. According to Cashin, the Velocity 5 offers runners the same comfort over short and longer distances.
The updated platform gives the shoe one of its key technical changes. PUMA widens the NITROFOAM™ base and raises the forefoot stack to improve underfoot cushioning and deliver maximum energy return. The superior engineered mesh upper adds breathability and stretch, which supports comfort during regular training. The durable PUMAGRIP outsole offers reliable traction on a variety of surfaces, making the Velocity 5 a practical choice for everyday miles.
The shoe uses a 35mm heel stack and a 27mm forefoot stack, creating an 8mm drop. PUMA quotes the weight at 230g in the UK 8 and 190g in the UK 4.5, giving the Velocity 5 a lightweight profile for an everyday running shoe. The brand also gives the model an expected life of up to 800 km or 500 miles, which supports its role as a long-term training partner.
