During Haute Couture Week in Paris, Roger Vivier presented L’Atelier des Papillons, the Pièce Unique collection for Fall-Winter 2026/27, marking an important pivot for the Maison. for the first time, Gerardo FeloniThe highest expression of tailoring craftsmanship extends beyond this bags and embroidered pieces to hug footwearrecovering Roger Vivier’s founding identity as one of the most revolutionary shoemakers of the 20th century.

The expansion feels neither opportunistic nor forced. Instead, it reads as a natural return to the Maison’s roots, a corrective gesture that acknowledges that Mr. Vivier first built his legend on shoes. That his successors spent years establishing the Pièce Unique as the pinnacle of decorative excellence in accessories and wearables makes sense now: the foundations were laid for this moment. THE sneakers The inclusion in Pièce Unique is equally intentional. Introducing a couture interpretation of a silhouette Felon originally designed in 2018, the collection upholds something essential about modern luxury, that exquisite craftsmanship need not be confined to traditional categories. The language of haute couture, the collection suggests, is strongest when it moves.

The butterfly remains the organizing principle of the collection and here it is of Feloni the most sophisticated conceptual work. Rather than pastiche, his approach treats motif as a living vocabulary. Mr. Vivier returned to the butterfly throughout his career – embroidered on dresses for Christian Dior in 1955 and 1963, sculptured in forms of heels, rendered as decorative jewelry. It reappeared in the famous Papillon shoes for Vivier’s 1987 retrospective exhibition at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs. The symbol accumulated meaning for decades: femininity, movement, transformation. More importantly, it carried the burden of genuine artistic inquiry rather than decorative whimsy.

Felon does not repeat this file. It allows him to breathe. At L’Atelier des Papillons, butterflies emerge through an orchestrated vocabulary of techniques. Intricate beadwork draws the light in different registers. Hand painted wings provide dimensional texture and color change. Organza, macramé, sculpted metal and crystal create variations in surface treatment that feel less like stylistic choices and more like different visual translations of the same poetic impulse. The limitation is elegant: just as no butterfly in nature is identical, each Pièce Unique object becomes a unique interpretation. Individuality is structurally embedded in the assumption of collection.

The Efflorescence Jewel bag demonstrates this principle more strongly. Sculpted butterfly wings, articulated in beading with fringe detailing, transform the silhouette into something almost architectural. The proportions are assured, almost architectural in their geometry. In black with gold accents and soft jewel tones, the bag functions as both an object and a work of art, a piece that justifies the designation “one-of-a-kind” not only through rarity but through apparent conceptual rigor. This is not a limited edition being recycled as an exclusive. The obsessive attention to surface, the scrutinized variation of each piece, suggests that these objects were truly fantastically individual.

The Choc pump, built around Monsieur Vivier’s 1959 revolutionary curved heel, becomes the basis for the first Pièce Unique shoe collection. Felon reinterpreted this heel for 2026/27 ready-to-wear, but here it reaches its apotheosis. Photographed amidst garden settings, the pumps emerge with hand-painted floral arrangements, delicate, almost watercolor in execution, with areas of dense decoration and carefully considered negative space. The shoes read as wearable art objects, though “wearable” almost seems to diminish them. What Felon has done is to expand its decorative language Vivier’s beading and embroidery delivery directly onto the surface of the shoe, making the shoe itself a canvas rather than a support for embellishment.

The introduction of a Pièce Unique sneaky it signals something broader about how luxury homes are rethinking their own hierarchies. The sneaker, the most democratic of silhouettes, is becoming increasingly common in haute couture shows, but rarely with the kind of restraint and conviction Felon demonstrates. The curved heel, derived from the Choc pump and the 1959 archive, ensures that the sneaker reads as consistent with Vivier’s design language and not as a categorical compromise. Its inclusion argues that the standards of exclusivity, craftsmanship and conceptual coherence that justify the pricing and positioning of the Pièce Unique need not be limited to traditional couture categories.

The presentation itself took place at the Maison Vivier’s salons, reinforced the intellectual scaffolding of the collection. Moodboards combining archival photos, historical documents and sketches made the research behind each piece transparent. Historical shoes and original embroideries are on display, traceable connections between them Monsieur Vivier’s visionary work and of Feloni modern interpretation. This curatorial approach transforms heritage from abstraction into visible dialogue. The archive does not become a limitation or a nostalgic point of reference but an active partner in the design process.

What L’Atelier des Papillons achieves is perhaps more important than its individual pieces: it proves that Vivier’s legacy can accommodate expansion without dilution. The Maison’s founding identity as a cobbler, long dormant in previous iterations of Pièce Unique, has been reclaimed and reconstituted. The butterfly motif, which carries genuine historical weight, proves flexible enough to accept infinite variations without losing coherence. And the inclusion of the sneaker suggests that the future of luxury may lie not in categorical purity, but in the confidence to apply uncompromising standards of craft and concept to traditional and contemporary silhouettes.

For a maison founded on the premise that shoes are not functional objects but expressions of a person’s aspirations and identity, a return to footwear as a core category is inevitable in retrospect. Felon he has orchestrated this comeback with wit and imaginative poetry. L’Atelier des Papillons is not retrospective. It’s a recovery.
