Netflix develops a new version of 13 Continued on the 30th with Emily Bader and Logan Lerman in the leading roles. Brett Haley will direct the romantic comedy after teaming up with Bader People we meet on vacation. Jessica Alba, Taylor Ortega, Tim Meadows and Dan Bukatynski also join the cast. Jennifer Garner returns to the project as an executive producer.
The film introduces a new generation to the phrase “30, flirty, and thriving,” which helped define the original Garner-starring romantic comedy, Mark Ruffalo and Judy Greer. Netflix has kept the plot under wraps, so the studio has yet to reveal how the new film will approach the original story or its characters.
Bader recently worked with Haley on People We Meet on Vacation, where she played Poppy. The director expressed enthusiasm for their continued collaboration and praised her pairing with Lerman. He described the two actors as a strong match and said he felt lucky to play a film that has deep meaning for many viewers. Haley’s directorial credits also include All bright parts and All Together Now.
Garner’s involvement gives the project a direct connection to the original film. Haley called the previous film rare and near perfect, citing its humor, emotion and memorable performances. He also acknowledged the responsibility that comes with revisiting a title that has remained important to audiences. Garner’s role as executive producer holds special meaning for the director because she played Jenna Rick in the original version.
Haley directs from a script by him Hannah Markswhose previous work includes Mark, Mary and some other people and After all. Flora Grisonknown for The Princess Diaries 3 and The High Notehe later revised the script. Joe Roth and Jeff Kirshenbaum produce for RK Filmswith Garner, Donna Roth, Susan Arnold, Scott Hemming for Revolution Studios, Alyssa Altman for RK Films, Marks, Gina Matthews and Ted Gidlow serve as executive producers.
The project also continues Haley’s work with Netflix. His previous film for the platform, People We Meet on Vacation, remained in the English top 10 for four weeks and reached the top 10 in 92 countries.
Netflix has not announced a release date for the new 13 Going on 30. The company also has not shared any further information about the plot, character details or production time. For now, the confirmed cast and creative team offer the clearest picture yet of the reboot.
