We dream in hotels, jet-lagged, floating between time zones, in fleeting comfort. What if our dreams weren’t just nocturnal hallucinations, but plans for a better world?
During Milan Design Week 2026, designboom checks the I Milan The Duke hotel with ROOM FOR A DREAMa site-specific takeover that transforms the iconic Aldo Rossi-designed hotel into an immersive laboratory of creative hope. Through a series of large-scale installations, a dedicated cinema space, live talks, workshops and social gatherings, the project explores the dream state as a tool for architectural and social transformation.

ROOM FOR A DREAM: A MULTIBODY ASCENT
The project takes place in the public spaces of the hotel, with a curated selection of designers, interdisciplinary creators, and brand partners who come together to create a multi-layered, sensory exploration of dreams as design tools. In collaboration with SolidNature, Ressence, La Marzocco, Oppoand INDX|WORLDdesignboom creates a multi-layered landscape for visitors to experience live programming alongside interactive installations that form an immersive cultural platform.
The cinema space is formed in collaboration with Paris PAF atelier: a spatial system conceived as a journey through layers of the unconscious, where the architecture guides the visitor through shifting dream states. Through abstract, symbolic forms, the work materializes the elusive mechanisms of the dream, proposing a utopian reinterpretation of reality shaped by image and sensation.
