Jelly Lamp translates gelatin desserts into a 3D printed sculptural table lamp

Ephemeral pleasures last with MAJU’s Jello Lamp

Designed by Singapore and California-based studio MAJU, the Jello Lamp explores how temporary, everyday forms can be translated into a lasting object. Inspired by its gentle sway gelatin desserts and his bulging curves balloon sculpturesthe 3D printing table lamp combines sculptural geometry with plant materials to reinterpret fleeting moments through functional lighting.

MAJU presents the Jello Lamp, a sculptural table lamp developed around the idea of translating temporary forms into permanent objects. Designer Hyu Lim sought familiar sources of everyday softness, including the buoyancy of balloon animals and the movement of a jelly spoon, to inform a design that retains these qualities in a durable, illuminated object.

Curves and scalloped contours build the silhouette of the Jello Lamp

The lamp’s form is defined by generous, rounded volumes and gently scalloped edges that recall both balloon sculptures and shaped desserts. The result, developed by studio MAJU designer Hyu Lim balances playful familiarity with a sophisticated sculptural presence. A translucent shade diffuses the light source in a warm glow, turning the lamp into an illuminated object where function and form are closely integrated.

The Jello lamp is 3D printed to order in plant material

Each Jello lamp is custom 3D printed in MAJU’s laboratories in California and Singapore using plant-based, biodegradable PLA. This production method reduces inventory requirements and minimizes material waste. The lamp is designed as a modular system, allowing shades and bases to be replaced or upgraded over time, while the base incorporates a built-in cable organizer for cable management.

Measuring 9.5 × 9.5 × 12.25 inches and weighing approximately half a pound, the lamp uses a low-power 2.9W bulb with a warm color temperature of 2700K. The Jello Lamp is part of MAJU’s larger collection of contemporary home objects, made entirely from plant-based materials and informed by a mix of Eastern and Western design influences.
