Cenit converts cultured cellulose into suspended lightweight objects
Following the release of LapsoPolybion and Natural Urbano present Cenit, a new family lighting objects that explore the relationship between the cultivated materialslight and modern interior design. The collection combines natural ash, stainless steel steeland Celium™ Manto, Polybion’s Premium Cultivated Celluloseusing its translucent surface to filter light in a warm, atmospheric glow. Inspired by the golden horizons and linear compositions of the 1970s, Cenit translates light into a floating horizontal landscape. Its name refers to the highest point in the sky relative to an observer, an idea expressed through the lamps as a horizontal line of light held within the space. While Lapso was coined as a sculptural statement, Cenit extends the same material exploration to a more versatile family of lighting objects for modern interior spaces. The collection includes pendant and table forms, allowing the use of Celium™ to adapt to different scales and applications.

Natural Ash and Celium Manto Shape Layered Structure Cenit’s
Cenit marks the first collaboration between biotechnology company Polybion and design studio Natural Urbano that combines wood, stainless steel and Celium™ Manto in one lighting piece. The structure is formed from a layered natural ash spine, assembled from thin ash sheets that are compressed and nailed together. The Celium™ Manto shade is sandwiched between four layers of ash on each side, eight layers in total, and secured using the same compression and nailing construction method. The resulting frame supports the translucent cultured cellulose while leaving its material properties visible throughout the light-filtering surface.
Celium™ is grown by feeding bacteria with agro-industrial fruit waste. As the material is grown through a biological process rather than produced through conventional extraction methods, each leaf develops subtle variations in tone, density and surface expression. These differences remain visible in the finished lamps, contributing to their visual and atmospheric qualities. The hanging version uses a horizontal composition that evokes a suspended horizon, while the table lamp translates the same layered material language in a smaller form. The table lamp is available in two material finishes: Celium™ Manto, which filters light through a translucent surface of cultured cellulose, and Celium™ Keros / Espumante, which introduces a denser and more textured appearance. Each Cenit lamp is made to order, with an estimated delivery time of five weeks. The collection is available through Natural Urbano’s website and Vibe Lab / Polybion Shopify.
