Simon & Schuster it will reboot Anna Dorn debut novel Tramp blonde on October 6, 2026, returning the book to readers six years after its original publication. The new paperback edition comes as debates around micro-fame, self-branding, parasocial bigotry and online visibility become increasingly difficult to separate from everyday life.
At the heart of the novel is Prue, a thirty-year-old state attorney whose stable life offers little of the success she imagines for herself. He’s got an unclaimed law job, a girlfriend who brings him into Los Angeles music circles, and a growing desire to pursue rap under the name Vagablonde. Her aspirations push her away from the safety of her existing life and into a creative scene based on performance, attention and reinvention.
Prue’s direction changes when she meets music producer Jax Jameson, an unpredictable figure whose talent and charisma draw her into his circle. He joins ‘Kingdom’, a collective of musicians and artists united by shared aesthetic interests and a desire for escapism. Prue soon closes her law practice and becomes increasingly involved in the group’s volatile lifestyle.
Together, the musicians form Shiny AF, which quickly attracts a devoted audience. As Vagablonde, Prue enters a new reality shaped by visibility, public approval, and the constant need to turn into content. Her professional reinvention brings her the success she wanted, though it also ties her identity to the backlash of a growing fan base.
Dorn uses Prue’s rapid rise to examine the emotional cost of identifying with the virus. The novel examines what happens when personal identity becomes a public commodity and when creative ambition depends on constant attention. Los Angeles provides the setting for a story full of music, nightlife, performance, and the pressure to appear successful before that success takes any solid form.
Published before the language of micro-fame and parasocial fandom entered wider cultural discourse, Vagablonde now reads as an early account of the systems that reward exposure while eroding the distinction between private and public life. Dorn presents fame as a situation that changes how Prue understands work, intimacy, and her own worth.
The reissue follows Dorn’s later novels Exalted, Perfume & Pain, and American Spirits. Exalted was a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, and her later work continued her interest in aspiration, cancellation, desire, recovery, and the cultural environments that encourage people to become characters.
Simon & Schuster will publish Vagablonde in paperback on October 6, 2026. The edition will retail for $19.
