cracked textures sculpt melting landscapes for a collection of aurora-inspired ceramics

Layered ceramic textures cause ice corrosion and cracking

pølaire by louve. presents a series of sculptural ceramic forms derived from erosion, melting ice, cracked surfaces and polar landscapes in transformation. Made of stone, the collection explores the material conditions associated with fragility, tension and gradual disappearance through a process of layered surface treatment and handcrafted construction.

The sculptures draw on the visual characteristics of sea ice, frozen ground and eroded geological formations. Cracked textures, uneven edges and dense accumulations of materials produce forms that seem to hover between stability and collapse. Each object is developed through repetitive gestures that emphasize slowness, accumulation and surface differentiation within the ceramic process.

Material processing plays a central role throughout the series from louve., by designer Manon Benoit. Rough textures, slits and layered finishes create contrasts between toughness and vulnerability, while the pale tonal palette references frozen matter and shifting polar environments. The forms alternate between smooth and broken surfaces, suggesting conditions of pressure, erosion and melting.

Through the ceramic material, pølaire reflects on the transformation of natural environments shaped by climatic instability. Rather than directly representing specific landscapes, the sculptures translate processes of erosion, fragmentation and disappearance into tactile objects positioned between geological artifact and abstract sculptural form.
