Bridging ancestral techniques with modern clay arts
For 3daysofdesign, Studio davidpompa presents Can Natural, a new version of one of the studio’s most established collections, developed by artisans at Los Reyes Metzontla, Puebla. Derived from an ongoing exploration of material and surface, the new finish reveals a warmer, more natural tonal quality, emphasizing the depth, texture and tactile honesty of the clay. This new clay reflects not only a different aesthetic but also a distinct material process and local identity. This clay development marks the beginning of a collaboration between davidpompa and 1050°, a cooperative of leading artisans from Mexico dedicated to the preservation ceramic traditions and ancestral knowledge rooted in the regions of Oaxaca, Puebla and Chiapas.

Craft, time and texture define the Can Natural clay collection
While emerging from different contexts, both practices, Studio David Pompa and Craftsmen’s Cooperative Association 1050°, you share a common sensibility: a deep respect for craftsmanship, the integrity of materials and the time that goes into hand-crafted processes. The partnership is based on a mutual appreciation for Mexican craft traditions and cultural knowledge passed down through generations of artisans. The Can Natural collection reflects this dialogue between contemporary design and traditional craftsmanship. The finish includes irregularities, texture and nuances, preserving the traces of the process and emphasizing the natural character of the material itself.
