Dotted light is a phenomenon that may seem mundane to some, but it is one of the most unique experiences in our universe. Other planets may have air, rock and atmosphere – but we’re the only ones with trees, which makes their shade a special experience. The leaves wave back and forth, the product of thousands of separate elements, skillfully flowing together. Drawing on this unique experience, Heath Pottery proudly presents the Summer 2026 collectioninspired by his work Welcome Studioswith the Origins series of prints, which reflect the rhythms of our world.
Heath traces its roots to the sunny hues of the California sun, founded in Sausalito by Edith Heath in 1948. Since 2006, the group has released an annual seasonal collection to bring classic designs to life. This year, the theme is Seeds of Summer – with prints created by Zurich-based Bienvenue Studios.
Bright gradients and gorgeous mixed prints come in two colors, Heath always prefers quality over quantity. Komorebi is a Japanese word used to describe sunlight filtering through the leaves. This translucent effect is created on ceramics by spraying thick layers of glaze and scraping back layers in specific areas to mimic the soft glow of a forest floor. The process takes longer, and is therefore less common, but it creates a surprisingly bright surface on which to display food, snacks or fruit. We often discuss bringing nature into design, yet a tougher debate is how we prioritize natural light, especially in commercial spaces.
A natural collaboration, Heath Ceramics and Bienvenue Studios are fueled by observation. Studying the intricacies of natural phenomena, each glaze design is modern yet rooted in ancient systems, similar to the ceramics it decorates. This ‘Origins’ series focuses on the concept of seeds and their potential. The small and perhaps mundane is transformed into a life-giving object, ready to spring into action whenever the right conditions are met. In this way, our nature is reflected in our bowls, flourishing when we take nutrition seriously.
