For No vacancy, a bar in New Delhi, IndiaManav Dangg, Principal Architect at Studio Dangg shapes a compact interior into a spatial experience defined by movement, enhancing the long and narrow proportions of the site and allowing the volume to become the central protagonist of the project. A continuous tunnel-like enclosure draws visitors inward, where mirrored surfaces expand perception and soften spatial boundaries. The corners are softened in curved transitions, while along the entire height mirror anchors one end, visually doubling the depth of the space. A continuous one bench merges with the wall, guiding movement along the interior.
to cut steel– inspired finish wraps the space in warm, oxidized tones, contrasted with precise stainless steel inserts. The furniture follows suit, with leather seats, buckled backs and steel rims introducing tactile variation without disrupting continuity. Color is used sparingly, with sage-green stools providing a subtle accent to an otherwise muted palette.

A hidden cove light runs the length of the bench, grazing the textured surfaces and accentuating the curve. The stainless steel elements catch and diffuse small spots of light from table lamps and wall sconces, creating a multi-layered glow. Behind the bar, the Architects based in New Delhi at Studio Dangg they combine backlit acrylic with steel mesh to transform bottle displays into luminous compositions, enhancing the scenographic quality of the work.
The space functions as a community-oriented bar organized around a single focal point. DJs and vinyl artists occupy one end, allowing the entire crowd to orient themselves naturally without visual fragmentation. The elongated volume supports this arrangement, creating an intimate boiler room-like atmosphere where proximity intensifies both sound and social interaction.
No Vacancy is based on a series of deliberate decisions: embracing confinement, prioritizing movement, and balancing industrial cool with moments of warmth. The fixed volume becomes an active agent, shaping the way visitors enter, gather and interact. As the tunnel compresses and expands perception through reflection, light and sound, the work shows how confinement can translate into spatial tension.
