Everyone is planting pollinator gardens these days. Right next to me is a house with a certified pollinator garden, which is pretty cool. It’s also pretty scary. Is it really necessary to certify your garden? What if you choose the wrong plants?
Well, the good news is that bees don’t really care if you’re certified or not. As long as you plant the kinds of flowers they like, they will come. And when it comes to picking the right plants, I’ve got you covered! Here are some of the best pollinator garden kit out there. They come with default collections of seeds and bulbs that bees and butterflies he will love it, and you can plant without worry. Let’s dive in!
Seed mixes
This gets points for style and eco-friendliness. It boasts seeds from 18 different flower varieties (don’t worry, I counted), all guaranteed to get pollinators flocking. It comes in a lovely collapsible box – all you have to do is flip the top and shake.
Bulk Perennial Wildflower Seed Mixture
This is a slime, it claims to contain 63,200 seeds. (Something tells me no one counted, though). This is a perennial package, meaning you are planting long-lasting flowers that may not bloom until next year. But when they do, they will be so worth it! You can also purchase an annual package from the same company for more immediate gratification.
This is for you if you want to watch your flowers up close as they grow. Comes with 12 biodegradable pots, growing medium and flower seeds. Place them on a bright windowsill or patio, then transplant them into the garden when they are big enough. This would be perfect to grow with children.
Bulbs, tubers and more
Dahlia Tubers – Bee & Butterfly Mix
This collection of dahlia tubers will grow into unique pink and purple flowers, specially designed to welcome bees. Plant them all together to create a “drift” – a large area of similar flowers where pollinators can happily fly from one to another.
Gladiolus Flower Bulbs – Butterfly Mix
This set of colorful gladiolus bulbs is a must have for butterfly gardens. They are also deer resistant, extremely low maintenance and amazing for bouquets.
Small Pollinator Garden – 5’x7′
This is a completely different kind of kit. Ordered all your plants but have no idea where to put them? Plant by Numbers creates life-size designs for your garden. Just place it in your space, cut the holes and space your plants perfectly!
More ways to welcome pollinators
I am a huge fan of Bee Cups. These handmade porcelain gizmos are the perfect size and shape to give bees a refreshing break in your garden. In addition, they are painted with a special UV glaze designed specifically as a beacon to attract bees.
Set of 3 Hummingbird Swings
Bees already have bee cups to hang out with, but what about hummingbirds? These adorable swings are the perfect spot for these tireless fliers to put their feet up (figuratively) and take a break.
Yellow sunflower butterflies feeding
This handmade butterfly feeder works in a way that no one expected. Fill the center of the flower with the sand and salt provided and then cover it with water. As the water evaporates, it will leave behind essential minerals that butterflies won’t get from plants alone.
