The art of living like a Roman

When JK Place announced its new venture launching this May, the hospitality world and savvy travelers alike have taken notice. The legendary European brand, long renowned for its intimate properties in locations such as Paris and Capri, had done something more daring than adding another hotel to its collection. Casa JK Place Roma redefines what it means to stay in a city, completely abandoning the traditional hostel model in favor of 12 thoughtful residences located in an 18th-century Roman palazzo on Via dei Prefetti. The idea is simple: offer travelers the experience of having their own home in Rome, without sacrificing a single layer of the grace and personalized service that did JK Place virtual.

Our recent stay confirmed that the brand lived up to exactly that promise, though the experience goes beyond mere competence. What emerges is something rarer, more intangible and ultimately more valuable than a perfectly executed hotel stay. It is the sense of belonging.

Architecture of Comfort

Enter one of these residences and the bones of the 18th-century palace are immediately announced, but never overwhelmingly so. Michele Beanthe design mind behind each JK Place property, has orchestrated an esoteric language that honors Rome’s historic grandeur while speaking fluently about contemporary life. Statuario marble floors locate intricate geometric compositions in living spaces. The walls shift between Pompeian reds, greens, ivory and tobacco leaves, creating a palette that feels both historically grounded and thoroughly modern. Original ceiling beams, clean white finishes and period fireplaces add layers of depth without ever feeling cluttered or consciously curated.

The furniture is entirely custom designed. Sofas dressed in rich Dedar Velvets (Jaguar green, red, soft gray) anchor the living spaces with warmth, while modernist armchairs in golden yellow burette with delicate chinoiserie patterns provide visual relief. It’s the kind of interior that photographs beautifully but, more importantly, lives beautifully. There is nothing precious about it. This space wants you to sit on the sofa, cook in the kitchen, stay at the dining table.

The kitchens are generously proportioned, with island counters in bronzed steel and Calacatta marble, suggesting you can prepare something here beyond morning coffee. But also ideal for having friends, as we did. We were happy enough to have a few friends over before heading out to dinner for a quick Roman aperitif. Bathrooms warrant their own paragraph. Generous marble showers, sculptural elliptical tubs placed like art installations, mirrored surfaces lined with chrome steel, marble vanities and light fixtures from Devon & Devon Everything comes together around an Art Deco sensibility that evokes 1940s elegance without mimicking it. These are bathrooms designed for staying in, not just passing through.

Restaurant and the details that matter

At twenty-twothe property’s restaurant, occupies a glass-domed courtyard at the heart of the palazzo, its interior illuminated by the specific Roman light that constantly shifts throughout the day and the seasons. The cuisine draws from local traditions and classic Italian gastronomy, but most importantly, the staff remembers. During our stay, the restaurant team anticipated preferences, anticipated requests, anticipated the simple fact that returning guests want to feel recognized.

A perfectly executed vegetarian eggs benedict arrived without being asked for again. An avocado toast that was among the best we’ve encountered appeared at breakfast, made with the care usually reserved for more elaborate preparations. This is not a demonstration technique. This is hospitality he really listened to.

Luxury mattresses

The gym houses state-of-the-art Technogym equipment, including excellent Technogym Kinesis wall gymnastics, a piece so sophisticated that Technogym’s the founder uses it in his home. It’s the kind of detail that can seem overwhelming until you realize it JK Place has applied this same selection pattern to every element of the property.

The beauty products in the bathrooms are from Alma K.a brand that prioritizes nature-based formulations free of parabens, mineral oils and paraffins, instead infusing Dead Sea minerals throughout their range. Body lotions, exfoliating soaps and bath products reflect a luxury philosophy that emphasizes substance over marketing. These are products chosen not because they fit an aesthetic, but because they are really good.

Intimacy and belonging

If you have stayed at JK Place Paris (reading our full review here), you will immediately recognize the visual language. The brand has achieved something difficult, something that completely eludes most hotel groups: consistency without monotony. Casa JK Place Roma echoes its fraternal qualities while remaining quintessentially Roman. A palazzo in Rome should look and feel like a palazzo in Rome, not a Parisian apartment transplanted south. The team understood this. The result is a space where you feel the comfort of familiarity and the thrill of discovery at the same time.

We arrived on one of Rome’s hottest days of the year, when the city itself was empty of tourists, when even the Romans seemed to retreat into the shadows. The relief of walking into the climate-controlled apartment, sinking into a sofa designed for true relaxation, knowing that a meal in a restaurant where they remember your preferences would await, was profound. This is how hospitality should feel, not as a service provided, but as the simple comfort of being at home.

Signature experience

Dedicated chefs, butlers and concierges move around Casa JK Place Roma with the kind of grace that suggests they truly believe in what they offer. Italian excellencethe brand calls it, and the phrase captures something essential: excellence is understood as an Italian value, something embodied in how things are done rather than what is done. Whether you stay overnight or for weeks on end, this philosophy remains constant.

Just a few steps from Piazza di Spagna, Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, the shopping mecca that is Via Dei Condotti and the Trevi Fountain, Casa JK Place Roma places you not as a tourist passing through Rome, but as someone who actually lives there. Which, during your stay, you actually do. This distinction is far more important than amenities or thread. It’s the difference between visiting a city and belonging to it, even temporarily. JK Place has mastered this transformation and Casa JK Place Roma is proof.
