
The best look at Met Gala 2026 came back “Costume Art” on a red carpet shaped by sculpture, performance and bold fashion. It was held in Metropolitan Museum of Art In New York, on May 4, the annual Costume Institute Benefit celebrated the museum’s new exhibition and dress code, “Fashion is art.” This year’s theme pushed the conversation beyond spectacle, with the exhibition looking at how clothes shape, frame and respond to the body. It also marked a shift in representation, as ‘Costume Art’ extended the Costume Institute’s study of the clothed body through disability, aging, pregnancy, body shape and bodily difference, while the carpet brought this debate into public view. With Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williamsand Anna Wintour serving as co-chairs, the evening brought together major names from music, film, fashion, sports and art. DSCENE chose the looks that defined this year’s carpet, from heavy crystal structures and sculptural gowns to sharp tailoring, archival references and custom pieces made for the night.

Rihanna followed Maison Margiela with over 115,000 crystal beads, antique jewelry and objets d’art. Her presence was directly associated with Costume Art, as she served as one of the real-life models for the exhibit’s custom mannequins.

Anne Hathaway chose Michael Korswearing a dress with hand-painted designs by artist Peter McGough. Aphrodite Williamsone of the evening’s co-chairs, wore one Swarovski Crystal net dress with Wimbledon plate inspired necklace. Nicole Kidman she wore Chanel, while Anna Wintour she arrived in a winged Chanel ensemble. Jaafar Jackson was wearing Ralph Laurenteaming a black velvet suit with gold details, a black bow tie, red socks and black ballet flats. Burberry brought Cher back after more than a decade in black silk tulle, leather corset belt and crystal cropped jacket.
