Reverse and Mechanical clothing return to Weapon with a new interpretation of one of Converse’s most recognizable basketball silhouettes. The collaboration brings the shoe to a low profile, reimagining a design that was first introduced at the NBA All-Star Weekend in 1986. The Weapon entered basketball culture through a short production run that lasted only two years. During this time, the shoe gained visibility through the league’s top players and became associated with the rivalry between Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. Their association with the model helped define the Weapon as one of Converse’s signature basketball designs from the era. For this release, Engineered Garments approaches the shoe through its utilitarian design language, giving the silhouette an immediate update while keeping the basketball history visible.

THE Converse x Engineered Garments Weapon focuses on construction, material and function. Padded full-grain leather shapes the upper, giving the shoe a structured look with visible depth. Collar padding adds volume around the ankle, while perforated detailing brings a sharper read to the surface. Adjustable Y-Bar straps introduce a functional element to the low-top form, connecting the collaboration with Engineered Garments’ interest in practical design details. Markings of the same brand appear on the label and insole of the woven tongue, marking the work on both sides.

The collection comes in two colorways. Vintage White and Yellow refer to one of the retro combinations that helped define the weapon, while Black and Vintage White bring another familiar combination to the new execution. Both versions tie the release back to the shoe’s older history, while the low-top construction gives the collaboration its own identity. The result keeps the weapon close to its source material, with several changes that reflect Engineered Garments’ design approach.

Engineered Garments has built its name since 1999 through clothing shaped by utility, eclectic references and great attention to craftsmanship. The label often works from historically accurate design codes and then adapts familiar forms with new proportions, details and uses. Applied to the Weapon, this approach creates a basketball shoe that reads as both archival and contemporary. The collaboration treats the sneaker as a designer item with a distinct past, while the full-length leather, straps, linings and signature details give it a specific identity for this release.

This project also continues the relationship between Converse and Engineered Garments. The two brands previously collaborated in 2017 on a collaborative One Star collection. With the Weapon, they revisit Converse history from a different angle, opting for a basketball silhouette with a short initial production run and a much longer cultural afterlife.
