The KD19 uses three main performance components to support speed, cushioning and stability during play. A full-length Air Zoom Strobel unit runs directly underfoot and provides responsive energy during drives and takeoffs. Nike first introduced full-length Zoom Strobel technology through the KD12, and the KD19 brings it back as the foundation of the cushioning system.

Cushlon 3.0 foam adds a springy feel underfoot and aims to keep players comfortable in the fourth quarter. A lightweight midfoot plate works with the cushioning setup and gives the shoe added stability during quick cuts, sharp stops and quick changes of direction. Nike combines these elements into a multi-layered system that addresses Durant’s scoring style and constant search for efficiency on the court.

An aggressive multi-directional pull pattern supports quick cuts and tempo changes. Nike incorporates the numbers 7 and 35 throughout the outsole as references to Durant’s career jersey numbers. The design gives the sole a personal connection with the athlete while providing hardwood grip during acceleration, deceleration and lateral action.

The TPU exterior provides another direct reference to Durant. Nike shapes the accessory like a dagger, recalling its “Slim Reaper” nickname. The structure extends around the midfoot and heel to secure the foot during play. Nike uses a dual-spray process to form the signature exterior design, giving the KD19 a visual identity that ties in with Durant’s personality and the restraint required for high-speed basketball.

Nike also draws from plate car culture to build the KD19. The company uses a production method common to the automotive industry and gives the shoe a dual-injection molded upper that wraps around its underlying structure like a candy coating. This reference takes on added significance in the Candy Apple edition, where the glossy University Red finish fits right in with the theme.

The colorway showcases the technical design through a saturated red treatment. Its glossy finish highlights the sculpted TPU element and layered upper, while the numerically coded outsole keeps Durant’s career references underfoot. The shoe maintains the KD19’s comfortable fit, responsive platform and low-to-the-ground setup.

The KD19 Candy Apple continues Durant’s signature line with a design that marries cushioning, traction and hold with intimate detailing. Air Zoom Strobel provides instant response, Cushlon 3.0 cushions landings, midfoot plate adds stability, and stiletto TPU construction secures the foot. Nike will release the University Red pair on July 21 via SNKRS and Nike.com.
