‘CERAMIC FORMS ON LIGHT INSTALLATION AT MILAN DESIGN WEEK 2026
Snow cap and VitrA Bathrooms and Tiles joined forces for Milan Design Week 2026 to present ‘Ceramics Forged in Light’, an installation that challenges our perception of industrial waste. Taking center stage at Interni’s ‘MATERIAE’ exhibition, the project marks VitrA Bathroom and Tiles’ twentieth year in Milan, upending its traditional life cycle ceramic.
The space, designed in collaboration with the interdisciplinary studio, acts as a sensory pathway, using water, light and clay to physically guide visitors through the various stages of ceramic production – from its raw, wet origins to its final, fired form. Deepening its bond with sustainability, the installation focuses on the debut of nova vita recycled tile collection and recycled ceramic sink.

SNØHETTA AND VITRA BATHROOMS COMMIT TO CIRCULAR DESIGN
The collaboration of VitrA Bathrooms and Tiles and renowned architectural studio stems from a shared commitment to material stewardship. While the global bathroom manufacturer approaches ceramic design as a basic foundation for the modern bathroom, Snøhetta sees it as a means to deepen human-centered experiences and environmental integrity. In line with the ‘Materiae’ theme, the creative collaboration explores how the fundamentals of ceramic production — water, light and clay — can be harnessed through circular design. By treating industrial waste as a high-quality resource rather than a by-product, the duo transforms the necessity of green production into a space that honors the value of reclaimed materials.

THE RECYCLED CERAMIC WASHBASIN
Through a regenerative manufacturing concept, VitrA Bathrooms and Tiles reintegrates industrial waste into the production cycle to minimize environmental impact. The greatest achievement of the company’s extensive research and experimentation is the recycled ceramic sink, produced from production process waste that would otherwise be discarded. By prioritizing the reuse of existing resources over the extraction of new raw minerals, the project significantly reduces its environmental footprint. This commitment to a sustainable future is woven into every stage of the basin’s creation, from the careful recovery of production residues to the production phase powered entirely by renewable energy sources, including electricity collected from the brand’s solar power stations.

Beyond technical specifications, the collection encourages conscious consumption through a timeless aesthetic. The recycled wash basins are finished in soft, matte beige – a natural shade that reflects their raw origins – and are available in five different geometric shapes, ranging from sharp rectangles to gently asymmetrical ovals.
The circular ethos is further extended to nova vita porcelain tiles, which are made with recycled material and verified by SCS Global Services. Together, VitrA Bathrooms and Tiles and Snøhetta prove that the future of the bathroom lies at the intersection of architectural intelligence and the designer.
